Matching for the Miracle League

We’ve met our goal, but we aren’t finished yet!

At ESP, we like to dream big. One of our biggest dreams yet is to bring our very own Miracle League to the Watkinsville community.

The Miracle League brings the magic of accessible play to kids of all abilities removing the barriers that keep children with disabilities from participating in baseball. Teams play on custom-designed, rubberized turf fields. The Miracle League Complex will also include specially built playgrounds for kids of all abilities.

For over 30 years, the ESP magic has given families in the Northeast Georgia area after-school enrichment, summer camp, and family support programs. Miracle League is the perfect match for the ESP mission!

Having our very own Miracle League will provide transformative experiences for individuals of all abilities to thrive through the magic of accessible play and inclusive baseball.

Our goal was to raise $1.7 million for the ESP Miracle League Complex. We are thrilled to announce that we reached that goal in just one year!

“This community rallied around our vision to embrace inclusivity and create a space where every kid of every ability can play baseball by helping us meet our goal in just one year,” ESP Executive Director Laura Whitaker said. “Neighbors, businesses, families and friends stepped up to the plate, and our team is so grateful to celebrate the collective dream as it comes to life.”

We rounded out our goal on October 1, 2019, thanks to the generosity of two closing donors – the City of Watkinsville and an anonymous foundation donor. ESP is now one step closer to housing our very own fully accessible Miracle League complex where every individual, no matter their physical or mental abilities, can play America’s pastime!

Thank you for going above and beyond with your help reaching our goal, but we aren’t quite finished yet!

ESP has been awarded a matching grant of up to $130,000 by an Atlanta-based foundation!

The grant was given to make the ESP Miracle League complex the best it can be for our participants and the whole community! Some of the things this grant will help fund are a medical area, an accessible pathway to the park, and additional shade. All of these details will add the finishing touches to our fully accessible complex. We plan to break ground in 2020!
