With the new school year starting, ESP has been very busy planning exciting activities for our families. We needed a few extra hands to help us in the office, so we sought the help of some interns. The office has recently welcomed many new faces who hope to gain experience in the nonprofit field. Stop by and say hello to our office interns!
If you’ve seen pictures of 360 on Facebook or recently received a brochure in the mail, you can thank our intern Mallory! Mallory is a student in Graduate School in the School of Social Work for a Masters of Nonprofit Management at the University of Georgia. Her dream is to start a nonprofit that serves kids and adults with developmental disabilities in an underdeveloped country. Mallory has been a part of ESP since she started over a year ago as staff in the Younger Middle Unit, then the Social Media Marketing Intern, the Camp Marketing Leader for ESP Ever After, and most recently, the Content Marketing Intern. According to Mallory, “ESP is a place full of such joy and love. The participants have taught me exponentially more than I could have ever imagined about life, love, and how to enjoy it to the fullest.”
A fourth year student at the University of Georgia, Alden is majoring in Magazine Journalism and minoring in Consumer Economics. She is the Public Relations and Special Events Intern for ESP and writes social media posts, organizes media coverage and helps with special events such as the Fall Festival and Big Hearts. Alden is hoping to gain more event planning experience and is learning everything she can from the staff and participants. She loves to cook, run, read and is an avid coffee drinker. A fun fact about Alden is she’s been cliff diving on an Indian Reservation in Arizona! Alden loves to spread joy to others and if a genie could grant her one wish, she would ask that whenever someone around her is having a bad day, the genie would play happy music to turn their frown upside down!
If you’ve seen recent Facebook events and articles posted, you can thank our second Public Relations and Special Events intern, Marcella! Marcella is a third year Public Relations student at the University of Georgia minoring in Communication Studies and working on a Disability Studies certificate. As part of her internship, Marcella has been creating social media posts, blog posts, flyers and other media. She hopes this internship will gain her real-world experience of public relations and give her a first-hand look at a nonprofit organization. Marcella’s dream job is to start her own nonprofit for kids raised by a single parent. Her favorite experience has been photographing the participants at 360. She says, “Seeing their faces light up at different activities and capturing these moments on film was a joy. I loved interacting with the participants and seeing ESP’s mission come to life.”
A lover of coffee and dogs, Amanda is our new Development Intern! She will be assisting with donations, community outreach and grant research. Millie, as she’s known around the office, is a senior at the University of Georgia. She has recently begun applying to graduate schools for social work and hopes this internship will give her a picture of what she’d like to do with a Masters in Social Work. A fun fact about Amanda, she completed the Disney College Program for a year and worked at the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster!
Alexus is no stranger to ESP! Currently a senior, Alexus has been involved with ESP since her sophomore year and is majoring in Commercial Real Estate at the University of Georgia. As the Development Intern for Camp Hooray, Alexus will be working with construction, making sure Camp Hooray is following all land and building regulations, running feasibility test and developing ideas for camp layout. She hopes this internship will help her to grow in confidence in the commercial real estate field. Her favorite memory is when her first buddy, Eric, told her he was going to marry his girlfriend one day. Alexus says, “ESP is about loving everyone no matter what and providing them a place where they are just like everyone else.”
Emma is a high school student with big dreams- she wants to obtain her Masters and become a nurse practitioner one day. She is planning to attend the University of Georgia and to major in Biology and minor in Public Health. An Athens native, Emma is our Junior Intern. She hopes this internship will help her to change lives, both hers and others. Emma is on her high school’s flag line, plays piano, enjoys camping and involved in the Beta Club. She has two dogs and one cat. If she could travel anywhere in the world, Emma would love to visit Germany because of the beautiful architecture.
